This was a really fun sketch, so I hope you give it a try. I didn't have any circle dies that were large enough for the side panel, so for the first card I used my largest labels 8 die:
MME Holly Jolly dp Ali Edwards for Technique Tuesday stamp set Gina K dark chocolate cardstock Nesties labels 8, small circles and scalloped circles |
Creepiest crafting find EVER. The rest of this 6x6 pad is lovely and very normal. Baby creeped me out though!
Then I decided to get crafty and you know, actually follow the sketch (which is not necessary but I would've felt slacker-ish if I didn't, so there you are), so I found my personal CD player - well, my kids' really - and traced it to make the circle panel for this card:
Jillibean Soup Apple Cheddar Soup dp walnut cream -Bazzill and dark chocolate-Gina K cardstock Unity Stamp Co sentiment; distress inks |
I cut the circle by hand, adhered it to a layer of brown, and then hand cut that too. Easy enough and certainly proof that you don't need the world's fanciest or most expensive tools to craft (but don't tell my husband)!
Thanks for visiting me today, and please do go link up a card after giving this sketch a try!!

Lovely, especially the first one, lovely vintage card. Ger x.
ReplyDeleteGreat job! Will try to play along too....IF the family cooperates!!!
ReplyDeleteTwo great samples Jen! LOL, I've never really loved that doll part of this classic Santa image either. (I own a stamp of it.) I think it's a doll but kinda looks more realistic and yet it's limp... I think that's why it's sorta creepy looking. These both have a nice warm feeling to them. Great work!
ReplyDeleteHaha! I love that the layers cover the creepy baby. Well done! Thanks for sharing these awesome samples with us. I can't wait to see what I can make for this sketch because it looks like a fun one.
ReplyDeleteGreat job!!! I really like the old fashioned, traditional Christmas card. If I can steal time from a busy day to make a card today, I may follow your lead on using a CD because I have card making stuff all over my kitchen counter from yesterday and getting out my cricut seems too much of a hassle. I tend to use different sentiment stamps together, too. Or sometimes part stamp, part from my computer.
ReplyDeleteThe baby doll IS way creepy, though I've seen Victorian dolls in antique stores and museums and that's what they seemed to look like. Gotta wonder what that did to little girls' psyches! LOL Great job covering it up!
Turned out adorable and thank you for covering up that creepy paper! Yikes-oh-rama! But nice work on the samples! And Ms. Fancy cutting out things by hand :)
ReplyDeleteOMGawd, that baby really is creepy! He looks like he has a white mustache and has been traumatized! LOL Great cards for the challenge today, and I love the woodgrain on the 2nd card! Well done!
ReplyDeleteI have to agree, that baby is creepy looking! But you did a great job making it disappear lol. I love that 2nd card.
ReplyDeleteHaha! It was fun to hear the story behind your Santa card! I like how you used the Jillibean Soup paper on the other card too. And thanks for sharing the tip about tracing your cd player:)

I have that Santa image in a rubber stamp and the dolly is creepy for sure! The paper sheet is cutting off the rest of his toy stash. I like how you placed your sentiment layer to hide the creepiness. The second card is definitely warm and cozy. TFS
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job following the sketch! I agree the baby... oh maybe its a doll...even so, it's a little creepy! I do like the Santa image except for that. LOL! Great cards!
ReplyDeleteHee hee... yeah, that is a "creepy baby" but you did a great job hiding it! :)
ReplyDeleteI have this same paper and was making cards with it last night. I didn't notice the creepy baby. But now that you have mentioned it, I won't be able to use it either! I may have to CASE your card! Thanks for posting these cards. They are definitely going into my "to do" pile!

Nice card, and good idea to cover up the baby!
ReplyDeleteI have that paper pack too...and I ended up just cutting out the Santa and throwing him away (using the rest of the paper for background mats). Now I wish I hadn't done that, I could have repurposed him. Thanks for sharing this idea!
